Welcome!
I am a dancer and a scholar, a teacher and a learner. I live on Vancouver Island between the mountains and the sea, in the city of Nanaimo.
I am a grandchild of immigrants, foreigners who arrived in Canada from Lebanon and from Scotland. My dance projects, like my ethnographic research, explore relations between North America and the Middle East. In our globalizing world, I work in a boundary zone between disciplines and cultural geographies.
This website includes my academic cv, as well as a dance biography. You'll find articles I have written about belly dance, museums, cross cultural education, and more. Other pages describe and document my activities in Turkish and Arab dance, including belly dance classes, workshops and performances.
I hope you will find these ideas, inspirations, and resources useful.
